Saving sent photos not from camera roll/memories

Idk at what point sent snaps were able to be saved instead of deleting after the allotted time frame the way its always been. If i didnt save something and send it directly in a message its because I didnt want it being saved but now any snap it seems sends as a message and can be saved by the receiver... what is this? It defeats the purpose of snap chat and this needs to be fixed asap.
